Read Through the BIBLE in 2020

Updated: Jan 26, 2020

I've never done it.

I've always wanted to, but never buckled down and made the commitment.

Can you relate?

This year...that's all going to change! WHY? Because pursuing the Word of God has never been more important to me.

In 2019, the one thing that none of us want to imagine happening to us, happened to me. I lost my dad. The month of August was one of the toughest times that I can remember and yet, it was also an amazing month of answered prayers and faith filled reliance on God.

During the weeks when my dad was in the hospital, the Word of God became my solid foundation like never before. I've always loved the Bible. Memorized it. Studied it. Shoot! I've even sang it! But during those 2 weeks, the Word became my lifeline. I began to pursue the words of God like never before and I realized that it fed my soul. It filled up the emptiness inside me that I was feeling. It gave me hope and peace when the situation I was in couldn't offer it to me. Many verses that I had memorized as a child in JBQ came back to me and became the firm foundation that I needed.

So here I am. It's the start of 2020. A new decade and I'm SO EXCITED to read through the Bible this year! Would you like to do it with me? I would LOVE to have you join me! I've done some research and I've chosen a 5 day, pseudo- chronological reading plan. The reason why I like this plan is that there is some "wiggle room" for days that you may miss! It's chronological, but it doesn't start at Genesis and go straight through.

It is a pseudo-chronological plan that covers the text of the Bible in the order the events happened. Thus, for example, the Psalms come at appropriate moments in the life of David, the books of Kings and Chronicles are read in harmony, and so on. This helps set the events in their historical context. Yet even though it’s chronological, it’s only pseudo-chronological. There are Old Testament and New Testament readings each day and the gospels are interspersed through the year. I find this an ideal compromise over a strictly chronological program. (challies.com)

You can download the plan HERE. There are additional details about the plan at www.fivedaybiblereading.com.

This could be so fun! We can become a little community! We can talk about it and encourage one another. I don't have any advice for getting it done, but I do have some thoughts about why it is important to do.

1. We will know God more.

2. We will know ourselves better.

3. We will build an eternally significant habit.

4. We will be better equipped to share Jesus with others.

1 Peter 3:15 says, "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"

So who's in!!!???

The plan doesn't start until Monday, Jan 5, so there is plenty of time!! (I got a couple of days in already and I love it!) Please subscribe and comment to let me know you are sharing this journey with me!
